Rob Magao – Owner (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Rob Magao is the owner and head instructor of the Bushido Jiu-jitsu Academy, with twenty years experience in the martial arts including:
- Black Belt (belt promotion video) in Gracie Jiu-jitsu under Master Pedro Sauer
- 2nd Degree Black Belt Goju Ryu Karate (Under Paul Zamaites and Teruo Chinen)
- 2nd Degree Black Belt in Nihon Jujitsu (Under Stephen Luckingham, USJA)
- 1st Degree Black Belt in LOCK UP Police Combat (Under Lt. Kevin Dillon)
- Sauer Tactical Arrest and Control Instructor Trainer
- Experience in Muay Thai, Judo and Wrestling
- Co-founder of the New England Submission Challenge
Rob has over 18 years of law enforcement experience (15 years on SWAT). This experience is vital in being able to teach realistic self defense based on real life experiences and not just theory. Rob is the Event Coordinator for the Physical Fitness Challenge at the annual CT SWAT Challenge. Rob is the Co-founder of the Ground Fighting Curriculum for the CT Police Academy. Rob is a highly respected international law enforcement instructor. He has taught hundreds of personnel from local, state and federal law enforcement agencies as well as the United States Military in the areas of arrest and control, ground fighting, SWAT, Dignitary Protection and Physical Fitness. Rob is also a Certified L-1 CrossFit Trainer and co-owner of CrossFit Thin Blue Line.
James Kodzis – BJA Instructor
James Kozis (Jimmy) has over 20 years of martial arts experience and has worked in law enforcement for over 20 years.
He is an avid competitor and coach but his true passion is teaching law enforcement to protect themselves from the danger they routinely face.
He is an avid NAGA competitor and coach and holds ranks in several martial arts including:
- Gracie Jiu-jitsu Black Belt Under Master Pedro Sauer
- 3rd Degree Black Belt Japanese/American Jujitsu
- 2nd Degree Black Belt Shorin Ryu Karate
- He has experience in Boxing, Wrestling and Judo
James is a founding member of our academy. James is the Co-founder of Ground Fighting Curriculum for CT Police Academy and is an adjunct instructor at CT Police Academy in Meriden, CT where he teaches Ground-Fighting. He has over twenty years law enforcement experience (Patrol, K9, SWAT). He is the author of Jujitsu Volume 1, Volume 2 and Police Ground Combat DVDs. James has also competed annually in the Connecticut SWAT Challenge.
Mike Rossi – Assistant Instructor / Judo Black Belt, Gracie Jiu-jitsu Black Belt
Mike Rossi is a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Kodokan Judo, a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Japanese Jujitsu (USJA), a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Karate and a Black Belt under Master Pedro Sauer in Gracie Jiu-jitsu. He is a former member of the Unites States Army and presently works in education.
Gerry Navarra – Assistant Instructor / Judo Black Belt, Gracie Jiu-jitsu Black Belt
Gerry Navarra is a Black Belt in Kodokan Judo, Black Belt in Japanese Jujitsu (USJA) and a Black Belt in Gracie Jiu-jitsu under Master Pedro Sauer. Gerry is also a lifelong Wrestling Competitor and Coach. Gerry, a high school teacher and wrestling coach by trade also holds numerous NAGA championships. Gerry is our academy’s head wrestling coach.
Benjamin Witkowski – Assistant Instructor / Gracie Jiu-jitsu Brown Belt
Benjamin Witkowski is a highly dedicated student of Jiu-jitsu. Ben is a Brown Belt in Gracie Jiu-jitsu under Master Pedro Sauer. Ben is a decorated competitor also having competed in numerous BJJ and No-gi grappling tournaments including NAGA and Grappler’s Quest. Ben has been training since 2006 and presently works in the insurance industry which often allows him the chance to train at other schools around the country when traveling for work.
Ed Carini – Head Muay Thai Trainer
Ed is the head instructor of our Muay Thai Program. Ed is a certified Muay Thai Trainer under Master Tran. Ed is a life Long Martial Artist and has a passion for training and for teaching. His classes are challenging and build well rounded Muay Thai skills.
