At Manchester BJJ we offer a variety of programs designed to help you reach your goals!

Kids (5-8 years old) Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Program:
Our kid’s Gracie Jiu-jitsu program is designed for children 5-7 years old and focuses on very basic martial arts principles such as coordination drills, basic positions, body mechanics/awareness, self-discipline and the Gracie family games which are a fun way to learn Jiu-Jitsu and to learn safely.

Youth Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (8-13)
Our Youth Gracie Jiu-jitsu program is for ages 8-12 years old. Our program teaches the fundamentals of traditional Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and also mixes in basic Judo and Wrestling for a well-rounded martial arts education for your child.

Our program also focuses on teaching kids to work hard, never give up and always try to help others. Physical fitness drills will help your child build a strong body and improve their flexibility, strength, speed and coordination. Discipline, respect and self-control are also stressed in our kids program. All of these qualities in combination with the self-defense aspects of learning Gracie Jiu-jitsu will help your child succeed in all areas of life! As with our adult and teen programs, competitions are also available for kids but are not required.

Teen Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (13-15)
Teens (13-15) we encourage to attend our Adult Gracie/BJJ class where they will learn all the same techniques as the adults and also have the chance to compete in local, regional, national and international grappling competitions. This class is fun, challenging and energetic! Our teen program will develop quality skill in all aspects of Gracie Jiu-jitsu, increase strength, flexibility and coordination and teach leadership qualities important for each student to succeed in and outside the dojo.

Adult Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu – (14 and Older)
Our adult Gracie Jiu-Jitsu program teaches students a variety of effective techniques such as take downs, ground control holds, joint locks, choke holds, sweeps, reversals and self-defense strategies.

Many fights and altercations end up in grappling range or on the ground and because Gracie Jiu-jitsu is primarily a self-defense, ground fighting and grappling martial art, it is very effective in real life self-defense situations. Where the ground is the end for many martial artists, it is only the beginning for us. Gracie Jiu-jitsu can also be pursued as a competitive sport. While competition is not required it is a great way to test your skill and meet new friends.

Our Adult Program starts with our fundamental Jiu-Jitsu program which focuses on teaching new students the building blocks and techniques of Gracie Jiu-jitsu. At our academy we track your attendance, teach you a proven curriculum of techniques and build you from the ground up!

We also have more advanced classes once you have become acclimated with the academy and are ready to expand your training.

Our academy belongs to the Pedro Sauer Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association. For more information about Master Pedro Sauer please visit his website at pedrosauer.com.

We currently have 5 Certified Gracie Jiu-jitsu Black Belts at our academy. Instructors Rob Magao, James Kodzis, Mike Rossi, Gerry Navarra and Nima Gholampour. All are Certified Black Belts under Master Pedro Sauer. We also have several Judo Black Belts and wrestling coaches on staff which makes our program one of the best in the region!

Adult Muay Thai Kickboxing (16 and older)
Our Adult Muay Thai program is led by Certified Muay Thai Trainer Derek Wong and Peter Dang. This class focuses on the striking art of Muay Thai and includes instruction in stance, footwork, punches, kicks, knee and elbow strikes. Students learn sparring drills, Thai pad drills, focus mitt drills, bag work and conditioning methods that will get you in the best shape of your life!

Youth/Teen Muay Thai Kickboxing (12 and older)
We also have a youth/teen Muay Thai program for ages 12 to 15. This class is very similar to the adult Muay Thai classes but is more age specific for younger students.

Law Enforcement/Military Arrest and Control Training
We offer a variety of arrest and control courses for law enforcement officers, military units and security firms. Classes range from a few hours to several weeks and can be tailored to your agency’s needs. For further information about these types of classes please visit our police training website at policecombat.com.

Private Lessons
Our academy also offers private lessons in each art. Private lessons are a great way to improve your skill quickly and also can be tailored to fit your schedule if making it to the group classes is not possible.

We also offer seminars and will travel to your academy. If you’re interested in a seminar please contact Rich McKeegan or Rob Magao at manchesterbjj@gmail.com

  1. I am looking for a special school to accommodate me and my family (particularly my kids and I) to learn together. I have a daughter (almost 10) and a son (7&1/2) that I am interested in starting classes for. I am also interested in training. I’ve seen other schools that offer resonble family rates. I am interested in Gracie style Jiu Jitsu but would consider other styles if the instructor is good fit for us and the price fits our budget. My cell number is 860-985-0815.

  2. Heather McClelland says:

    Detective Rob Magao,

I was referred to you by Geoff Anderson – he said to tell you “#1 sent me”. I’m a patrol officer with Groton Town PD and am interested in learning more about LOCKUP techniques and the training you guys do. As I’m coming from the far east of CT, I was hoping to connect with you about some different options for training. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance!
